>Role Purpose<br>The Search Technology Center (STC) is a new and exciting area
for Microsoft in Europe. STC Europe is working in partnership with Live Search
and Microsoft Research to deliver innovative Internet Search products and
services to the European and global markets. We need strong talent to improve
the overall search platform and relevance of search results in European
markets.

><br>As a Program Manager in this new team you will work with colleagues in
Europe, Asia and the US, you will identify areas of Live Search that need
improvement through data analysis, look at work currently in progress and
whether it will address these areas and if appropriate engage the development
team on new R&D projects.

><br>Team/Department Mission

>Europe contains three of the four highest-value, highest volume search
markets (UK, Germany & France). The STC’s mission is deliver the best search
experience for Microsoft customers in Europe and around the world making Live
Search the search platform of choice. The Munich office will focus on
improving the overall search platform and relevance of search results in
European markets. <br>

>This will involve deep interactions with research, incubation projects,
relevance measurements, results ranking, captions, data mining, index
composition, spelling, and web spam busting are some of the topics that will
keep this team busy. Our efforts will span the search runtime, search
platform, web crawling and indexing, and user data platform. We have a
distributed system with tens of thousands of computers (and growing) to return
results from billions of documents, several thousand queries at a time, in a
matter of milliseconds. Crawling and indexing the web is a large scale
distributed problem with exacting needs in speed, accuracy, and
comprehensiveness - and expanding relevant coverage across markets poses
additional unique challenges. <br>

>Key Accountabilities<br>Data analysis: analyze user feedback and usage data
to understand user behavior and needs

>Gap analysis: use feedback to identify areas to drive product innovation and
improvement<br>Cross group collaboration: liaise with colleagues in Europe,
Asia and the US to understand the remit of current R&D projects and the
functionality they will bring to the platform

>Work with the development teams to establish new R&D projects<br>

>Knowledge, Skills and Experience<br>

>Essential Experience<br>Proven experience working as a Program Manager /
Project Manager on development projects, working alongside a team of
developers.

>You should possess a strong technical background and have a good grasp of
software engineering principles. <br>Strong analytical mind and skills, data
driven and confident in decision making.

>Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects. <br>Experience in search,
information retrieval or data mining projects, must have experience working on
server application projects.

><br>Personal Attributes/Interpersonal Skills

>Self-motivated, proactive and possess the demonstrated ability to come up-to-
speed quickly in a new technical domain. <br>Excellent interpersonal
communication skills, written communications skills and the ability to work in
a team environment.

>Familiar and comfortable in presenting to senior executives. <br>

>Qualifications<br>BS/MS in computer science or a related discipline is
strongly preferred.
